Chris Golightly Disqualified From 'American Idol' Top 24
Singer replaced with Tim Urban, reportedly due to confusion over previous boy-band contract.
Let the drama begin. As if the two-night Hollywood rounds finale weren't already filled with enough joy, heartache and tears, "American Idol" producers threw one last twist into the mix at the end of Wednesday night's program by pulling a top 24 switcheroo.
After picking seven of the top 24 on Tuesday night, the judges culled the herd down on Wednesday to carve out the remaining 17 semifinalists, which appeared to include curly-haired Chris Golightly, whom we met at the Los Angeles auditions, where he talked about bouncing around between 25 foster homes as a child.
Golightly was seen in the group shot near the end of the show — at which point only 11 boys had been chosen on screen. But during the traditional finalist introduction dance segment that closes Hollywood, he was inexplicably replaced by Tim Urban. "It has been determined that Chris Golightly is ineligible to continue in the competition," read a statement from Fox. " 'American Idol' contestant Tim Urban has replaced Golightly as part of the Top 24."
A spokesperson for the show could not be reached for further comment at press time. Hours after the disqualification was revealed, show host Ryan Seacrest posted the same statement on his Twitter page, where he also announced that this year's contestants will have MySpace, Twitter and Facebook pages on the "Idol" hub. He did not elaborate on why Golightly was booted.
Golightly reportedly spoke to the "Idol" fan site JoesPlaceBlog.com on Wednesday night after the show aired and said that he had an old contract with a boy band that expired in June 2009. He said he auditioned for "Idol" in July, after the contract had expired, and when he made it to Hollywood he had to sign an "AI" contract that asked if he had any current contracts, to which he answered no. After making it to the top 24 in January, Golightly said he broke the lease on his apartment and sold his car to pay off the lease fees, only to get a call a week ago from the person who held his previous contract telling him that he was still under that agreement. Chris said he was not under that deal anymore, but couldn't find his release. After a round of phone calls between the singer and "Idol" execs on Wednesday, Golightly was informed just hours before the Hollywood finale aired that he would be disqualified because he couldn't definitively prove that he was not bound to the previous contract. Sadly, according to Joe's Place, the old manager later found the contract release and e-mailed it to Golightly, but it was too late, and because he made the top 46 this year, he reportedly cannot try out for the show again next year.
Urban, a floppy-haired 19-year-old Texas native who started playing guitar when he was 13, first popped up on many "Idol" watchers' radar when he sang a David Cook song during Hollywood Week. He has not been prominently featured so far in the audition rounds.
The last-minute disqualification mirrors a similar situation last year, when Joanna Pacitti was cut from the show due to unexplained conflicts after making the semifinals. At the time, it was reported that the former "Annie" star and onetime major-label signee had been tossed from the top 36 to "avoid the appearance of impropriety," an allusion to her alleged close personal relationship to some of the executives at 19 Management, one of the companies that manages some of the show's winners.
The Golightly/Urban drama comes as fans are wondering what happened to rumors that brawny new father Michael Lynche was also DQ'd during Hollywood after his father allegedly outed him as a semifinalist to a Florida newspaper, a no-no according to "Idol" rules.

Ellen DeGeneres surprised rejected American Idol 9 contestant Angela Martin Friday by telling her that Kara DioGuardi will write and produce a song for her, and said, “We’re going to get you a record label.” Ellen told her, “Your attitude is so amazing, because you keep getting back up” and “you don’t let anything get you down.” That’s considerably more help and comfort offered initially by Kara, who consoled Angela while giving her the bad news at the end of Hollywood week by making her move to sit precariously on the arm of a chair so that Kara could sit in it. Angela has had a shitty string of luck during her three times auditioning: Her first time in Hollywood came shortly after her dad was killed, and the second time she couldn’t compete because she was jailed for six days for failing to pay for tickets. This season, her mother has been missing. In addition, her daughter also has Rett Syndrome and needs special care. Here’s the video of Angela’s appearance on Ellen’s show

I like Bret but I don't see this one happening. He is very hot and in demand right now but can he fill Simons shoes? Can anyone?
Bret Michaels: Fox asked me to possibly be an 'American Idol' judge
Bret Michaels has claimed that he could potentially replace Simon Cowell on American Idol's judging panel.
"I can't say this is true yet, because I don't know. Next year they asked me to possibly be the judge on American Idol," Michaels told the crowd during his concert at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Biloxi, MS on Friday, according to video obtained by TMZ.
In addition, The Celebrity Apprenticethird-season winner and former Rock of Love star also encouraged the crowd to support him as Cowell's American Idol replacement in an "email to Fox."
A source close to Michaels told TMZ in a Saturday report that the former Poison frontman is "in the running to replace Simon" but added a deal is not close to being done.
In addition, a Fox representative told TMZ that the network is not commenting on any speculation regarding Cowell's replacement.
Michaels performed "Every Rose Has Its Thorns" with American Idol third-place finisher Casey James during last Wednesday night's live ninth-season finale broadcast, which also marked Cowell's final time on the show's judging panel.
Cowell subsequently suggested Michaels as a replacement when talking to reporters after the finale, Peoplereported.
"I was honored that Simon said that," Michaels told People. "I would be honored to do it."
Michaels -- who previously served as a Nashville Star judge during the show's Spring 2005 third season -- added that his 23 years of experience in the music industry would also make him qualified to serve as an American Idol judge.
"I would have done anything to have a platform like American Idol when I was growing up," he told People.
"For a lot of these young musicians, I'd be able to give them incredibly awesome and very, very real advice. Not just the music, but their attitude and what it's gonna take. Because everyone forgets one simple thing: Once you get chosen as the winner, you still have a big road ahead."
In addition, Michaels said he would bring his "heart and soul" by giving "amazingly honest and truthful advice."
"I would tell them if I thought their chances of making it were really slim -- and how to fix that," he told People. "Because my chances of making it were extremely slim. It's come from brute determination."
Michaels won The Celebrity Apprentice and appeared on American Idol's finale after a month of major medical problems that included an emergency appendectomy, a massive brain hemorrhage, and a warning stroke that revealed a hole in his heart.

I like Bret too but he's no Simon. Bret is too nice to replace Simon. Sure he appeals to the masses but it's a much different type of an appeal that just wouldn't cut it from the sharp tongued Simon.

add another name to the mix....
Diddy would take pay cut as Simon Cowell's replacement on 'American Idol'
Hip-hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs is making one thing very clear -- he wants to be the next judge on "American Idol". How badly does he want to come on board to replace Simon Cowell? The rapper dishes out the details:
"As a matter of fact I have a new negotiation, I would take a five per cent cut on what he was getting. He was on something like $34 million, and that's peanuts."
Of course, five percent off of $34 million isn't amounting to too much for Fox, who can probably find a different judge at a much lower price. Does Diddy carry with him a certain level of credibility? Sure -- he's been in the business for decades, and understands how to make hit albums and find talent. Not only that, but he is also both brash and opinionated enough to succeed in the role.

I just read that they lowered the minimum audition age to 15. So I guess that will be giving double the opportunity to the judges to reiterate how old the contestant is vs. how well they did. "Wow dawg... and you're only 15 years old? Amazing"
I really feel like this year was the beginning of the end. I think they're only going to lose more viewers with Simon gone. He really is SO much of the show.

They're grasping ...
How many winners have they had that were young other than Jordin Sparks...and she even hasn't had that good of a career. Unless they think their older crowd is going to leave with Simon leaving and they need to focus on their tweens and teens?
I'm not a fan of kid singers as it is so this definitely reassures I won't be tuning in next season!

I completely agree! I normally watch every episode, but this year I only watched about one a month- if even that- and mostly because it was on at the gym.
I'm not a fan of kid singers either (and seriously- why is Justin Bieber shirtless in my US Weekly? Can't I go to jail for kiddie porn if I look at that for too long?), so if the show is riddled with 15 and 16 year old contestants, it'll be one more reason NOT to watch this. Simon is gone, so there go the insults, Kara and Randy get on my nerves, and I love Ellen... but I'll watch her show when I want to see her. So I'm officially out..... dawg ;)

geez good point! Do these child molesters need a poster child??
I watched very seldom this season as well. I just can't take 90 seconds of singing followed by critiques from 4 judges. Too much verbal vomit and its annoying.

Looks like Ryan Seacrest - the hardest working man in showbiz - is finally making some time for love, and RadarOnline.com is the first to have the pics to prove it! The American Idol host, 35, was snapped Wednesday aboard Ryan's [color:f2b7=blue !important][color:f2b7=blue !important]yacht in Italy with gorgeous singer/dancer Julianne Hough, 21. The cutie-pie couple was snapped holding hands, cuddling on a couch and even locked in a passionate embrace and kiss. After enjoying some 'alone time' on the boat, the lovebirds went onshore and strolled together along the seafront of the tiny, romantic Italian harbor of Portofino. The couple has been rumored to be an item for about two months now, but both have refused to confirm they are romantically involved. They're reportedly headed to Monaco next.
