Big Brother Cast - Matt
Biography Matt
Name: Matt Hoffman Age: 32 Current Residence: Elgin, Ill. Occupation: Web designer Three adjectives that describe you: Intelligent, creative and sweet-talker Favorite activities: Playing music, writing music, watching TV, watching/playing hockey, hanging/drinking with friends and annoying people for my own amusement What do you think will be the most difficult part about living inside the Big Brother house: The frustration of not knowing all the major world and pop culture news that's happening all around you Strategy for winning Big Brother: I'm leaving all of my emotions from home and my "real life" at the door. When I'm in the house, it's 100% game. What types of people would you NOT choose to live with you in the house: Quiet, reclusive types. When you're crammed away in close quarters for that long, you need some stimulation. A recurring theme on Big Brother is "expect the unexpected." How would you handle "the unexpected:" I'm very adaptable and can think on the fly. Which past Big Brother cast member did you like most or least: Since the beginning I've liked Will, but his strategy would never work anymore. People play the game too much now. So, I'd have to go with Dan as my favorite. What are you afraid of: Failure. That's it. I think that comes from being an only child. It's a curse. What is the accomplishment you are most proud of: Everything I did with my old band, Shooting Blanks. Finish this sentence: "My life's motto is:" I don't want the world, I just want your half. Is there anything else you want the fans to know about yourself: I have what it takes. I'm smart, charismatic and housebroken so I won't pee on the carpet.

I think Matt would be a great pick for saboteur. I totally agree Smooches, I can definitely see it being him!

I really like Matt, and it could be possible that he's the saboteur but I don't know after re-watching the last 15mins of the Thursdays show...he looked suspicious but so did Kathy... I think Matt would be a good saboteur because he has the BB8 Eric smarts to pull it off but I just don't know... I can't wait to find out who it is on Thursdays show!

I hope the saboteur's not Matt simply because he's one of the most likable to me at this point, so I'd rather see him in the game for the long haul rather than getting taken out early if he's outed or by taking the deal at week five (more likely, if given the option I hope he'd continue playing). He does seem well suited for the task of being the saboteur though. I'd almost rather the saboteur be someone I don't want in the game simply because that's a huge strike against a HG, especially when the HGs inevitably learn the saboteur's identity.
It's weird, I thought Matt was an early pick for someone to hate in the game. It seemed like every interview was him bragging about his I.Q. or his (bad and now defunct) band. But now that he's in there he's funny and interesting. I love how those first impressions of HGs can change so dramatically.

I couldnt agree more MB. I really thought Matt was someone that I would not like and right now, he is my favorite HG. I thought I would like Rachel and Brendon and they make me sick. I hope Matt isnt the saboteur either as I want him to continue on in this game. He has got a great shot to win as he has surrounded himself with an alliance who collectively is not as smart as he is. Guess we'll find out Thursday!

Good point about Matt's alliance. It even has that Four Horseman dynamic with two conspicuously threatening players for distraction (Lane/Hayden and Jase/Scott), the...um...oddball (Enzo/Cowboy of course) and someone who stays in the background, quietly orchestrating and being nonthreatening and charming (Matt/Drew).
But yeah, Brendon and Rachel sort of sicken me also, and unlike with Matt, I thought I'd really like both of them in the beginning. Brendon's ego combined with the fact that he's engaging in a very obvious, and therefore target-making coupling with Rachel doesn't look good. It's a very dumb move that always creates trouble for your game, and if not for PoV, he'd be going home this week.

Too funny MB, I said the same thing last night that the brigade reminded me a bit of the 4 horsemen alliance. I agree with your breakdown but I might replace Enzo for Lane making Enzo part of the alpha male team of Hayden and Enzo(Jase/Scott) and Lane being the oddball aka Cowboy.

Lane is so not a Cowboy! He's very smart on what's going on and I forsee him playing a really good game but to compare him to Cowboy? LOL!!
of course hes not Cowboy. The analogy was that he was perhaps the oddball out in the bridage/4 horseman comparison, with enzo and Hayden being the Jase and Scott aka the alpha males, and Matt being the Drew. Being the oddball out is not comparing him to Cowboy, simply his spot in the alliance. I didnt think I had to explain that.

I'm sorry, but he just bores me! Like, worse than Memphis....
Memphis who?
I'm with you on that. Memphis is by far one of the most boring people to EVER play BB in its history. The only time I ever saw him raise his voice or grow a set was when he was calling out the 75 year old Jerry on some bullshit. Oh yeah, didnt Jerry say he was a womanizer or something and Memphis got his panties in a bunch over that and was acting like he was going to hit the old man? I could not stand Memphis. I wonder if he has retired on the profits he made from selling Renegade wear?

According to the New York Post (not exactly much other than a gutter news source anyway, but that's beside the point), the Melorheostosis Association isn't too happy with Matt (link).
"If Matt thinks melorheostosis is funny, he should look at the video on our Web site showing some of the beautiful little children afflicted with this catastrophic disease," Kathleen Harper, chair of the Melorheostosis Association (www.melorheostosis.com) told The Post yesterday.
1. Had anyone else heard of melorheostosis before this? I know I hadn't. If this association wants to raise money, they need to raise awareness. Popular culture/reality television reaches a wide audience. Sure, it's being used as a ruse in a game show, but Matt has given more information on the subject to a wider audience than ever before.
2. As far as I can tell, Matt does not think this disease is funny or a joke. The only thing funny about this to Matt is that people will believe him and might keep him in the game as a result.
3. What is the actual harm caused by this lie to anyone? None. If anything, if Matt wins, he pledged to donate to their cause. It has the potential of a net benefit, even if only by spreading awareness. This is a reality television show--it's a game. He's not using this lie to extort money from anyone or using it to mock people who suffer from this disease.
In short, it's much ado about nothing, in my opinion.
Dr. Will is one of the most famous HGs in BB history and he was arrogant as hell and even feigned an illness to Shannon in BB2. Yet Matt is a special case, apparently, though probably because this made the broadcast. People seem to have a problem with his arrogance (being a braggart is a turn-off about him I will admit), but not Will's. To me, they're both charming and conniving.

Agreed Bliss, he isn't making fun of the disease, in hindsight he is making people aware of it. Like you, I never heard of it either. Instead of them trying to get attention by bashing Matt, they should take this opportunity to spread the word. "Free PR"! Like you also mentioned, Matt said if he won he would donate some money to them. People are too freaking uptight.

Well I am in agreement with the both of you. I dont think Matt is making light of the disease or making fun of it. He simply picked an obscure illness that not many people have heard of and apparently he was successful as Dr. Andrew has never heard of it. While I dont think its the best idea to lie about an illness (Karma!) and you are bound to piss off someone, I am not outraged by this at all. Its not even close to the worst thing that I have seen or heard in the BB house. I can name a dozen more vile, hateful and hurtful things EASILY without even thinking too hard about it that have come from past HGs that make Matt look like a saint.

I am not outraged by it but just the same I do feel like him lying about his wife having this rare bone disease is just dumb and I wouldn't want to put that kind of karma out there. I don't see it as a brilliant strategic move and I think he can win without using his wife's health to garner sympathy from the others.

If they're talking about "Big Brother" on the view, then that show is even more useless and pathetic than my preconceptions of it were.
I thought the concept was supposed to be a diverse group of intelligent women talking about relevant, complex issues. Instead what they have there is a group of superficial gossips trying to get the audience to love them while talking about popular culture.
Maybe the good thing about it is it will increase the viewership of BB ensuring that it will continue to stay on the air. It's one thing to watch BB for entertainment as a summertime guilty pleasure, but it's another thing for a talk show on another network to be discussing it for no real reason, particularly when it's clear none of them have even watched it.
