"The Voice" is a vocal competition series modeled after Holland's top-rated vocal talent discovery show, "The Voice of Holland." Hosted by Carson Daly, the show features four musician coaches: Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, who will coach only the most talented vocalists.
The show's innovative format features three stages of competition: the first begins with the blind audition, then the competition enters into a battle phase, and finally, the live performance. The show's casting team is working with the music industry and searching the country for the best singers to bring to the blind audition process. During the blind auditions, the decisions from the coaches are based solely on voice and not on looks. The coaches hear the contestants perform, but they don't get to see them - thanks to rotating chairs. If a coach is impressed by a contestant's voice, he/she pushes a button to select the contestant. At this point, the coach's chair will swivel to face the contestant selected. If more than one coach selects the talent, the power shifts to the contestant, who may choose which coach they want to work with throughout the competition.
Once the teams are set, the battle is on. Coaches will dedicate themselves to developing their singers, giving them advice, and sharing the secrets of their success. During the battle rounds the coaches will pit two of their own team members against each other to sing the same song together in front of a studio audience. After the vocal face-off, the coach must choose which singers will advance.
I didn't think this show was going to be any good when I first heard about it and saw some of the previews. I figured it would be another knock off show of American Idol. Surprisingly it's a really good show that I liked and different than all of the judging shows.
I like that the singers if chosen by more than one coach then get to pick who they want to coach them.
Funny to see Frenchie Davis who had tried out for American Idol before be on The Voice and have a shot at it. I wonder how many ex- Idol contestants who never made it will turn up on The Voice as well, if any.
I don't know how good it will stand the test of time, but it was refreshing to watch something different.

Two words....Javier Colon!!! OH EM GEE!! He was simply awesome!!
My huge problem with the show though is one of the reasons why Idol became so sickening.....the freaking stories leading up to their audition. UGHHHHHHH!! I just hate that! AND....4 critiques from 4 judges...too much, although so far not nearly as sickening as the Idol judges.
Aside from that, I will probably continue to watch.
Here is Javier from last night in case anyone missed the show. This guy just might make you want to tune in!! Kudo's to Adam for getting Javier to join his team!

I must admit that I did fastforward through the individual stories, since I could care less to hear them.
How embarassing for those to have NO coaches turn their chairs around haha!

I really liked the how The Voice had 2 singers battling it out for a spot on the team BUT....of course there is a but....4 performances in an hour????? Yikes! And they are going to stretch this out for 4 weeks until each team has 4 members. I think Ceelo had the toughest decision of the night. Those 2 girls were crazy good! Blake made his decision on the whole package as I think the guy with the glasses (can't think of his name) out sang the other guy (can't think of his name either) but Blake went with the "good looking" one. I think Cristina may have made the wrong choice (jury out) and Adam could have gone either way. I think I would have picked the guy though. Its called the VOICE for a reason....more singing...less bullshit.

Hey all! I'm soooo glad you're watching this show!
I'm totally loving it... I feel like so many of the singers are more interesting to listen to than many of the Idol contestants. Mayhaps it's because singers who are older have more developed voices? I dunno... either way, I think it's great.
And Lorraine- I'm loving Javier Colon too. Funny- one of my co-workers was a friend of his in college. He said he's a great guy. I really hope he wins!

SUZIEQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok, now I know BB is right around the corner!!!! I love when our old friends start drifting back to the board. Its like a reunion...LOL!!!!!
I agree with you on the Voice Suzie. The singers do seem better and more interesting than on Idol. And need I mention that the judges are way way way more interesting and less sickening than Idol?
Welcome back to the party!!! LOL!

Haha- that's exactly what I'm doing!!! Summer is basically here and I'm in dire need of a BB fix!!!
I was scared though- I tried to get back onto the forum from my work computer last week and for some reason I couldn't find it! The site wasn't popping up in my google searches! I thought I'd give it another go last night and was happy to find that you were still in business!
I agree- the judges are faaaaaaar more interesting than on Idol. While I enjoy Idol, it's not the same without Simon Cowell grounding the contestants in reality. The Voice coaches are so much more entertaining and seem like they truly care and want to be there *cough* Steven Tyler *cough*.
I'm a country fan too, so it's great to see Blake Shelton in all of his awesomeness get some recognition for how talented and hilarious he is! (and he's pretty damn hot too!)

I have to be honest, I had no idea who Blake Shelton was until this show. I have to say that I genuinely like him! I knew who the other 3 judges were and I like all three of them as well....hard to believe! I also agree that Idol just isnt the same since Simon left. I watched one episode this year and just couldnt get excited over it so I stopped watching it. Glad you found your way back to the forum!
