Chris Brown performs Jackson tribute at BET Awards
LOS ANGELES – It was a night of comebacks at the BET Awards, and none more unexpected than Chris Brown performing an emotional tribute to Michael Jackson.
The embattled pop star has mostly kept a low profile since pleading guilty to felony assault for beating up Rihanna in February 2009. But here he was, center stage, mimicking Jackson's signature dance moves with almost eerie accuracy. Introduced by Jermaine Jackson, Brown embodied the King of Pop, wearing his fedora and spangled glove and moonwalking across the stage to "Billie Jean."
Then, as Brown grabbed a microphone to sing "Man in the Mirror," he broke down in tears. His voice cracked, he couldn't sing, and at one point he crumpled to the stage in apparent agony. It was a moving moment made even more so by the song's lyrics and Brown's recent past.
The 21-year-old returned to the stage later in the show when he won the AOL "fandemonium award."
"I let you all down before, but I won't do it again. I promise you," he said.
I don't know if anyone watched the BET awards last night but Chris Brown really did have a moving performance last night, and you just can't help but miss Michael and all of his great songs.

So I watched the Chris Brown vid and it definitely makes you miss Michael all the more. While I liked the dancing and the tribute I was unmoved by his crying. Something about it seemed forced and fake and a bit over dramatic.
I found this on twitter and it gave me a chuckle as I thought I was probably the only person on the planet to feel that way...

I caught this show this past Saturday night. Its called the Michael Jackson Experience and I truly enjoyed it. It made me miss Michael so much though. The guys name is Joby Rogers. The hi-light of the evening for me was the very end when Joby's nephew (who he is training to be a Michael impersonator) came out as a very young MJ and sang I'll be there. The kid was amazing and I posted a youtube of him as well.

Wow, thanks Lorraine for this thread. Michael has so many songs that I love, but my all-time favorite is Rock With You. I always said Michael music is one of the soundtracks of my life. I think my fondest memory of Michael if I had to choose one would be at the American Music Awards back in the early 90's and in between commercials he was so into the audience and dancing and having fun with us. Although I never got a chance to meet him, it was such a joy to be in the same room with him.
As far as Chris Brown performance last night, Chris was on my shit list for what he did, but no one comes close to him when it comes to dancing like Michael, so I really enjoyed his tribute. I think his breakdown was sincere. I believe his tears were about Michael but also the song also made him think about himself.
Michael will always be loved and number 1!

I agree Smooches, I can not picture anybody other than Chris Brown that could pull off the same moves as Michael. That was a really great tribute. I can not believe it has already been a year, damn it went by fast.

I would like to think it was real, Chris Brown has been very open about Michael being an idol for him as have countless other performers. I would like to think Chris Brown really has looked deep within and really thought to make himself a better person. Who really knows but for me I guess I just appreciated the artistry and all that embodies Michael Jackson. Like Smooches said his music is the song track to my life, Agreed.
